The region of Murcia covers 11,317km squared, located in the south east of Spain. The magnificent landscapes and nature reserves give visitors the chance to explore the area. The region stretches from Mar Menor, the largest lagoon in Europe around the La Manga strip and down the Mediterranean coast to Aguilas. The Mar Menor is relatively shallow with a maximum depth of 7 meters, making the lagoon an ideal place for everyone as the beaches all shelve very steadily. With the added bonus of the lagoon being like a warm bath in the summer, swimming during the evenings is possible.

With many historic buildings in the towns and cities, the region is full of historic places to visit including the 15th century cathedral located in the city of Murcia. Around 30km away from La Torre Resort in Cartagena, you will discover the beautiful Roman amphitheatre and Castillo de la Concepcion, a roman townhouse La Casa de la Fortuna and the Spanish civil war museums. Of course, the region also offers modern shops, an amazing range of leisure activities and street markets found in and around Murcia.

Due to the majority of the tourists being Spanish visitors, the region remains unspoilt with the Spanish culture still as its best with the famous fiestas and siestas. If you are planning to spend your holiday visiting the local area, then it is recommended to hire a car for the duration. Local transport is available via bus or train, but to see the outstanding beauty of the area around the Costa Calida then you really do want a car.
