Coming to Spain involves more than sunning yourself on the beach. With the Mar Menor so close to La Torre Resort, you can try new water sport activities. Whether water skiing in Spain is something new to you or you have previous practice, guaranteed enjoyment is all apart of the water sport experience along the Mar Menor. Be sure to take pleasure in the water skiing as you make use of the specially designed skis that are adapted for use on the water. | | |
Water skiing consists of being pulled behind either a motor boat or a cable system on either a lake or the sea. By holding onto the rope that is pulled along, if anything does go wrong while water skiing e.g. loss of balance, then you just simply let go of the rope. With a spotter onboard to let the driver know you have come off, they will stop and go back to you. When you partake in a session of water skiing, before you set off, they will make sure you are taught how to communicate with the spotter using certain hand signals to make sure they know if you are in trouble at any time. When you go water skiing along the Mar Menor, there will be 3 of you to the boat. Firstly one being you as the water skier, the second person is the boat operator and thirdly the spotter. The spotters job is to watch you so they can let the boat driver know if or when you need assistance. A good common example of this is letting the driver know if you fall over, this means that the driver will know when to stop the boat and come around to get you set up again. The more experienced water skiers will be able to jump over waves and performing stunts to show off their abilities. However, if you are a novice then please do not feel you have to show off. Instead it is worth concentrating on trying to keep standing upright and not falling over. If you feel you need to stop at any time, simply let go of the rope. The spotter on the boat will tell the boat driver to turn back to you straight away. With various water sport centres along the Mar Menor, you can be taught the skills needed for water skiing, all at a slow pace for everyone to pick up and learn. All over the Spanish coasts are centres that teach the correct way including Mar Menor. The qualified instructors can also offer courses of lessons to you. Most normal packages involve being taught the correct methods or water skiing and then proceed to have a few runs out on the Mar Menor for water skiing. If you are confident and have previous experience, then don’t worry about lessons and go straight ahead to arrange water ski runs. The normal rate of hire is on an hourly basis. Please note that if you bring your own skis, the overall cost will be cheaper due to hiring less equipment.
